Chevrolet Lifts Lid on 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible
Chevrolet revealed the 2014 Corvette Stingray convertible today at the Geneva Motor Show, featuring an all-new, fully electronic top that can be lowered remotely using the car’s key fob. The top can also be opened or closed on the go, at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h).
“The convertible has been a part of the heart and soul of Corvette since the very beginning in 1953,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. “With the all-new Corvette Stingray, we designed and developed the coupe and convertible simultaneously. As a result, the Corvette Stingray offers an open-top driving experience with no compromise in performance, technology or design.”
The Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible arrive in global markets in late 2013, with left-hand-drive models to be offered in Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Japan and Russia. Changes to Corvettes for export vary only in equipment required to accommodate a respective market’s regulations, such as lighting, headlamp washers and outside mirrors.
“Its fitting to introduce the new Stingray convertible on the global stage at Geneva, because Corvette is the face of Chevrolet the world over,” said Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac Europe. “It is an icon that has long been recognized and admired even in countries where it’s never officially been offered.”
All of the performance technology and capabilities introduced on the Corvette Stingray coupe carry over to the convertible. The only structural changes are limited to accommodations for the folding top and repositioned safety belt mounts. Central to the Corvette Stingray’s driving experience is an all-new, more rigid aluminum frame structure, which is 57-percent stiffer and 99 pounds (45 kg) lighter than the current steel frame.
All models are powered by the new LT1 6.2L V-8, with an estimated 450-hp (335 kW) and 450 lb-ft of torque (610 Nm). As no structural reinforcements are required for the convertible, both models share almost identical power-to-weight ratios.
The LT1 combines several advanced technologies, including direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing to support an advanced combustion system designed to balance power and efficiency. The new Corvette Stingray is expected to improve upon the current model’s fuel economy of 13.6L/100km (EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of 26 mpg).
With the top up, the Corvette Stingray convertible is designed for a ined driving experience. A thick, three-ply fabric top, along with sound-absorbing padding and a glass rear window, contributes to a quiet cabin and premium appearance.
With the top down, the Corvette Stingray’s signature profile is further accentuated. Behind the seat backs, dual black accent panels enhance the character lines of the tonneau cover. Corvette Stingray’s signature “waterfall” design originates in the valley between the nacelles, bringing the exterior color into the interior.
Additional highlights of the all-new Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible include:
- A sculpted exterior with advanced high-intensity discharge and light-emitting diode lighting and racing-proven aerodynamics that balance low drag for efficiency and performance elements for improved stability and track capability
- An interior that offers genuine carbon fiber and aluminum trim, hand-wrapped leather materials, dual eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens, and two new seat choices – each featuring a lightweight magnesium frame for exceptional support
- Advanced driver technologies, including a five-position Drive Mode Selector that tailors 12 vehicle attributes to fit the driver’s environment and a new seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching that anticipates gear selections and matches engine speed for perfect shifts every time
- Lightweight materials, including a carbon fiber hood on all models and a carbon fiber removable roof panel on coupes; composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels; carbon-nano composite underbody panels and a new aluminum frame help shift weight rearward for an optimal 50/50 weight balance that supports a world-class power-to-weight ratio
- Track-capable Z51 Performance Package, including an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling system; integral brake, differential and transmission cooling; as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability.

Chevrolet Volt in 2011
The Volt was unveiled—to wide public acclaim—as a concept car at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, and the first examples will reach dealers in November or December 2010. Only 10,000 or so will be built for the 2011 model year, and perhaps 60,000 a year thereafter. It uses some of the same mechanical elements as the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan, but only the Volt has a lithium-ion battery pack located in the tunnel between the front seats and extending under the rear seat. It drives entirely like a “normal car,” although without any transmission shifting noises, and like most electric cars, its acceleration from a stop is brisk and continuous.
As a brand-new model, the Volt comes only in a single body style, and the few option choices aren’t yet final. No sunroof is available, and the only exterior option will be a choice of silver paint or polished chrome on the five-spoke 17-inch wheels. Inside, a navigation system can be integrated into the dashboard stack, and two-tone leather upholstery can be specified rather than the standard cloth. Heated seats will also be offered. The car comes with the necessary charging cord to plug it into a standard wall outlet, and recharging the pack will take roughly five hours.
The EPA hasn’t yet decided how to rate the gas mileage of a car that runs significant distances purely on electricity from the grid. Some drivers may never use the gasoline engine, meaning their gas mileage approaches infinity. Others might drive more than 40 miles every day, using the gasoline engine once they have depleted the battery. So it’s worth taking any “mileage” figures for the Volt with a large grain of salt. As they say, “your mileage may vary” depending on how you use a car like the Volt. It’s also important to note that the Volt is often called a plug-in hybrid, because it has two energy sources. 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Z Spec for SEMA

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Chicago Auto Show
When you think Corvette you think high speed, not high mileage, but if asked which youd rather have in your driveway, any Corvette or any economy car, even tree huggers would be hard pressed to stand in the economy car line.
The new Vette goes on sale in the third quarter of this year as the first all new Corvette since 2005 and the first to use the legendary Stingray name last carried by the second generation model that bowed in the 1963 model year and was offered through 1967.
Its mission is simple, get younger sports car enthusiasts behind the wheel because the Vette has gotten to be referred to as an old mans car, even though old means an average age of only about 55. Still, Corvette needs to attract those younger sports car enthusiasts who migrated to European nameplates like Porsche and Audi as Vette went 9 years without a major redesign as GM focused on survival rather than sizzling style upgrades.
The 7th generation of the American sports car icon boasts a 6.2 liter, 450 h.p. V-8 capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 m.p.h. in less than 4 seconds and achieving more than 1G of force in high performance cornering. Yet thanks to an active fuel management system it will throttle down to four cylinder mode when coasting or cruising when it doesnt need maximum power. The new Vette as a result will exceed the 26 m.p.g. highway rating of the current model — making it the most fuel efficient Vette to date.
Stingray will offer a choice of 7-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with steering wheel paddle shifters.
Both high performance and high mileage benefit from a series of weight-saving measures, including a lightweight carbon fiber hood and removable roof panel; composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels; and composite carbon underbody panels plus a new aluminum frame.
Inside theres two 8-inch configurable "infotainment" screens and a choice of two seats: one for optimum comfort, the other a "Competition Sport" option with special side bolstering to hold the driver in place during hard cornering. The cockpit also features five ride settings for varying driving conditions — Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport and Track.
A Z51 performance package will be offered with such goodies as electronic limited-slip differential, 19 inch run flat radials up front, 20 inch run flats in the rear, and an aerodynamics package designed to improve high-speed stability.
GM hasnt set pricing yet, but said it will be in the range of the current car, which starts at about $50,000, and wont have a dramatic increase.
The new Vette is being counted on to generate traffic and bring folks back into Chevy showrooms, where motorists are hoped to leave with a new car, whether Vette or Aveo as long as it carries a Chevy bow tie.

Chevrolet Lifts Lid on 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible
Chevrolet revealed the 2014 Corvette Stingray convertible today at the Geneva Motor Show, featuring an all-new, fully electronic top that can be lowered remotely using the car’s key fob. The top can also be opened or closed on the go, at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h).
“The convertible has been a part of the heart and soul of Corvette since the very beginning in 1953,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. “With the all-new Corvette Stingray, we designed and developed the coupe and convertible simultaneously. As a result, the Corvette Stingray offers an open-top driving experience with no compromise in performance, technology or design.”
The Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible arrive in global markets in late 2013, with left-hand-drive models to be offered in Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Japan and Russia. Changes to Corvettes for export vary only in equipment required to accommodate a respective market’s regulations, such as lighting, headlamp washers and outside mirrors.
“Its fitting to introduce the new Stingray convertible on the global stage at Geneva, because Corvette is the face of Chevrolet the world over,” said Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac Europe. “It is an icon that has long been recognized and admired even in countries where it’s never officially been offered.”
All of the performance technology and capabilities introduced on the Corvette Stingray coupe carry over to the convertible. The only structural changes are limited to accommodations for the folding top and repositioned safety belt mounts. Central to the Corvette Stingray’s driving experience is an all-new, more rigid aluminum frame structure, which is 57-percent stiffer and 99 pounds (45 kg) lighter than the current steel frame.
All models are powered by the new LT1 6.2L V-8, with an estimated 450-hp (335 kW) and 450 lb-ft of torque (610 Nm). As no structural reinforcements are required for the convertible, both models share almost identical power-to-weight ratios.
The LT1 combines several advanced technologies, including direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing to support an advanced combustion system designed to balance power and efficiency. The new Corvette Stingray is expected to improve upon the current model’s fuel economy of 13.6L/100km (EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of 26 mpg).
With the top up, the Corvette Stingray convertible is designed for a refined driving experience. A thick, three-ply fabric top, along with sound-absorbing padding and a glass rear window, contributes to a quiet cabin and premium appearance.
With the top down, the Corvette Stingray’s signature profile is further accentuated. Behind the seat backs, dual black accent panels enhance the character lines of the tonneau cover. Corvette Stingray’s signature “waterfall” design originates in the valley between the nacelles, bringing the exterior color into the interior.
Additional highlights of the all-new Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible include:
- A sculpted exterior with advanced high-intensity discharge and light-emitting diode lighting and racing-proven aerodynamics that balance low drag for efficiency and performance elements for improved stability and track capability
- An interior that offers genuine carbon fiber and aluminum trim, hand-wrapped leather materials, dual eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens, and two new seat choices – each featuring a lightweight magnesium frame for exceptional support
- Advanced driver technologies, including a five-position Drive Mode Selector that tailors 12 vehicle attributes to fit the driver’s environment and a new seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching that anticipates gear selections and matches engine speed for perfect shifts every time
- Lightweight materials, including a carbon fiber hood on all models and a carbon fiber removable roof panel on coupes; composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels; carbon-nano composite underbody panels and a new aluminum frame help shift weight rearward for an optimal 50/50 weight balance that supports a world-class power-to-weight ratio
- Track-capable Z51 Performance Package, including an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling system; integral brake, differential and transmission cooling; as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Cabrio rendered
The very first rendering with the new Chevrolet Corvette generation in the drop-top version has recently hit the web and it might offer us a first glimpse into what the model will look like.
Chevrolet didn’t confirm a convertible version of the new Corvette generation but judging by the latest images which appear to have leaked the drop-top variant and this rendering signed by theophiluschin.com we can definitely say that the interest in the model is high and Chevy might consider putting it into production. If the Corvette Convertible will get the green light for production then it will most likely share the whole design of the Coupe, except, of course, for the roof, which will probably be fabric.
The Chevrolet Corvette Cabrio will get the same engine under the hood as its brother, the LT1 6.2 liter V8, with CVVT (continuously variable valve timing) and direct injection, which is producing a total output of 450 BHP (336 kW) and it has a peak torque of 609 Nm (450 lb-ft). The 0 to 60 mph sprint will take approximately 4 seconds. Additional details on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Cabrio remain unknown for the moment and it is yet to be confirmed whether or not the model will hit the production line.

This dramatically designed Camaro is gunning for it all with this all new model, its main competitiors are the Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang and the Nissan 350Z.
The transmissions available include the Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed auto for LS and LT trims and the Hyrda-Matic 6L80 for the SS - both autos have manual ‘tap-shift’ capability. Should you choose to row the cogs yourself, an Aysin-Warner AY6 six-speed manual is fitted in the LS and LT trims, with a Tremec TR6060 six-speed in the SS.
