2014 Ram 1500 First Diesel Half Ton Pick Up in North America

Sergio Marchionne is proving he wants to give diesel a chance in the North American Market.

Yesterday, Ram Trucks announced that the 2014 Ram 1500 pick-up will receive a 3.0 liter V-6 EcoDiesel as the fourth engine in the line-up. This engine is the same one that will be found in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Power output will be the same with 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Ram will only offer the 8-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission with the the Ecodiesel. All together Ram says that this will make the 1500 the most fuel-efficient half-ton truck on the market.

In just two months Chrysler  has gone from one diesel engine in their repertoire to three. Hopefully this trend can continue. If a truck buyer can enjoy a smaller diesel in their truck then it might just open the door for small efficient diesels to make their way to the American Market.
